Speech Repository
The speech repository system is an e-learning tool to help improve the quality of conference interpreter training.
This system provides universities, interpretation schools and professional interpreters with a collection of selected real-life speeches, graded by difficulty.
The collected material includes public speeches from national and international institutions and organisations such as the European Parliament, the European Commission, national parliaments and many more.
The system has a double goal:
- to improve the skills of university students in conference interpretation
- to help professional interpreters to add languages to their language combination
All video clips are selected by a team of professional interpreters, catalogued and organised per language, difficulty level, type of use, subject, etc.
Users are able to search the Repository for specific content, download clips, perform a mock simultaneous interpretation, record it and submit it to a tutor for evaluation.
The Speech Repository was restricted to EN, DE, FR during the pilot phase but will try to cover all EU and accession languages in the future.
The Speech Repository was set up at the initiative of DG SCIC, European Commission, with contributions from all European Institutions, notably the European Parliament.
